“It’s always been very hard for me to talk about my
music… it’s absolutely the music that I feel inside… it’s absolutely
research, I’m very interested in the avantguarde”. Francesco Marcocci
(Washington DC 1984) began to study the Bass in Italy, where he
frequented the Boccherini Conservatory of Lucca and the Bonamici School
of Modern Music in Pisa.
From 2001 he performed in Jazz Clubs and
Festivals in and outside Italy. He opened the Umbria Winter Jazz
Festival 2004, he performed in Barga Jazz 2005 and in the Semaine
Italien de Montreal (August 2006), Kodak theater, Elba Jazz, and many
Tours. He won a Scholarship in 2004 to attend the Berklee College of
Music. He moved to Boston in January 2005 where he is currently living.
In this environment he had the opportunity to study and play with great
Musicians: John Lockwood, Bruce Gertz, Gorge Garzone, Dave Santoro, Jeff
Galindo, Berrei Nettles, Oscar Stagnaro, Joe Lovano, Leo Blanco,
Francisco Mela, Ed Tomassi, Rick Di Muzio, Greg Hopkins, etc.
He frequently takes part in the Master classes of some of the Jazz
masters such as Ron Carter and the Dave Holland classes about
Composition and the Bass, among others. Francesco usually performs in
jam sessions around the city and in other Jazz Clubs. He leads his own
Bands, Francesco Marcocci Sextet, FJPV+1 Quartet plus other projects
that are gigging and touring. He also plays in many bands as a stable
sideman gigging and touring.
