Interview

What have been some important gigs and venues you’ve played in?

Well there are many places, but probably the most exciting for me have been the Kodak theater in Los Angeles during the Herbie Hancock tribute concert, with many great artist such as Sting, John Patitucci, Weyne Shorter, Herbie Hancock and many other amazing musicians. It was a great day: a lot of good energy and discussion; there was a great vibe going on in to the theater.
The other gig I’d like to mention is the Umbira Jazz Winter Festival 2004/2005 opening concert: I was 20 years old and I was opening the most important jazz festival of my country, Italy.

What are the names and releases dates of your previous recording?

The last 3 albums I’ve worked on that I would like to tell you are Impressioni in Blu: the first album I released with my own Sextet, Winter 2007. The other one is the second album I did with the Sextet that is called Love at BPC: is a live performance recorded on April 2007 and released on Summer 2008. Then there is Angel Los Boston: this is album is from the Banda Eclectics – Petros Sakelliou’s band – and it was released in Fall 2007; the tune Swingalong won the T. Monk institute prize for the best Jazz composition for 2007.

What are you working on right now?
I’m working as usual on my double bass skills and musical language. There are also four projects on which I’m focusing lately that are the Francesco Marcocci Sextet, the FJPV+1 Quartet, a new Sextet/Septet I’m working on – I’m actually rehearsing and writing a lot for this band right now – and the last one, but not the least, it’s a short movie/project I’m working on that will take place – shooting and recording - around April 2009 in South America: I wrote the music and the idea working together with Martino Frongia (the director of the shooting/movie one of my dearest friends).

What are your goals and objectives after graduate?
We’re really talking about something close: I’m currently (October 2008) taking my last semester at Berklee College of Music in order to get my Degree in Performance on the Double Bass. Anyway I have a big, big project in mind for the future, but for now is just in the air: it’s very big and important for me therefore I will need a few years to just try to make it happen… but we’ll see: who knows, maybe I make it. Except this I think about moving to New York around September 2009 and hopefully to start play and share music as much as possible; I also would like to keep studying with some teachers like J. Patitucci for the bass and W. Shorter for composition; hopefully I’ll get to them, for now I have Patitucci’s word for when I’ll be in N.Y.
